The website “A Changing (and Multimedia) World”, elaborated by the 4th year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) during the 2012-2013 year, has been chosen by the blog JournalismDegree.org among the 105 vital sources for Journalists in the new media landscape.

“A Changing (and Multimedia) World” includes the journalistic contents elaborated by the students within the course “Advanced Multimedia Journalism Workshop”, taught by Eva Domínguez. During this intensive course, students created individual stories and made a final multimedia and interactive feature in English. In the website, several examples of audio slideshows, data stories, interactive interviews and interactive features, which show a wide range of innovative ideas in the field, can be consulted.

The blog JournalismDegree.org is a reference resource that provides information and advice about the journalism degrees in the United States of America and around the world. It is maintained by Sean Flynn, graduate from the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Journalism.

The IJIE members Andreea Mogos and Radu Meza, from Babeș-Bolyai University (Romania), have published the article ‘New Trends in Journalism Curriculum Development. Romania Within the International Context’ in “Ephemerides”, a half-yearly published academic journal.

Ephemerides

After contextualizing the journalism education around the world and the journalism curricula peculiarities, the paper examines how the new media technologies have changed journalism education. The article also explains how this new environment demands new competences in the following areas: Knowledge, attitudes and personal features; News gathering skills; News production skills; and Technical and multimedia production skills. Later, the authors present an overview of the journalism education in Romania and establish a SWOT analysis of the curricula development in Romanian journalism schools.

Abstract. With the relatively recent technological, social and economic changes, journalism education and training need rethinking. The journalism curricula should be adapted in order to provide graduates with skills and competences that could answer the professional challenges of the 21st century: reflectivity, problem-solving, initiative and the ability to develop new products or formats. Critical thinking, innovation and entrepreneurial skills are key aspects of the new direction in Journalism education worldwide.
