The journalism department of the Babeş Bolyai University organised the ‘International Conference on Media Convergence’, which took place in Cluj-Napoca (Romania, 23-26 October, 2013). The conference focused on the media converge and the new forms of engagement between media professionals and the audience in the changing contemporary landscape.

The programme of the event pivoted around three key axes: (1) the theoretical perspectives on convergent media and journalism; (2) the challenges and innovations in researching convergent media and journalism and (3) teaching convergent media and journalism. Regarding this latter aspect, the conference delegates debated on the adaptation and adoption of convergent media in the classroom, focusing on central issues such as the efficiency of e-learning platforms such as Moodle; the use of social networking services and multimedia resources in teaching journalism; the teaching and learning via mobile platforms or the ethical and aesthetical aspects of implementing new technologies, among others.

The keynote speakers that participated in the conference were Henry Jenkins (University of Southern California), Peter Gross (University of Tennessee, Knoxville), Juan Carlos Sánchez Illán (University Carlos III of Madrid) and Tudor Vlad (Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Georgia). Elena Abrudan, Radu Meza, Andrei Costina and George Prundaru, IJIE team members from Babeș-Bolyai University, were part of the organising committee.
